Yeah, I didn’t think I was either. But my mom called me up on Monday and announced that the State of Washington had some unclaimed property in my name.
Sure enough, an old insurance carrier I had used — back when I could only afford catastrophic — had me down as being due over $100. (It doesn’t get more specific, unfortunately.)
When I looked up Tim, he had one from Jack in the Box, where he never picked up a last check… 13 years ago.
So, humor me: Go to your state’s Department of Revenue page and look for “Unclaimed Property.” Then do a search for your name.
You might just be surprised.

I've always checked for myself, but never had any. My fiancee though…had some money.
Thanks!

Hey! I didn't even know you could do that, but we've moved so many times, that it's probably a good idea to check on those contracts that could be in limbo. . .

Are you going to tell us how much the two of you got? Yep, I'm nosy.

I will once we know. Tim's Jack in the Box check is supposed to be between $25-50. The second one ($50-100) is at an address he doesn't recognize but I just asked them to check SSNs and see if it was him, since they moved a lot.
As for me, I still only know that it's over $100. Claims take up to 60 days to process so… Could be awhile yet.
