Tuesday night, for no apparent reason, I threw up. Weird, but whatever. Just in case, I sent him out for a pregnancy test because I’d been hungrier than usual and also extra tired.

Once we determined I wasn’t pregnant, we chalked it up to physical exhaustion. I went to bed early and felt find the next day.

Then Wednesday night there was a repeat. Tim shuffled me into bed, and we shrugged it off.

A Thursday night repeat performance, though, got us worried.

So Friday, I tried to get an appointment with my ARNP. There were no appointments, so I went to an urgent care place nearby. (Total aside: You got to do your paperwork on an e-reader kind of thing. Awesome.)

We asked for a pregnancy test because, once in a great while, there are false negatives. But, as you can probably guess from the title of his post, I am not with child. Nope, just without water.

The doctor said some stomach bugs go around in the spring here, so I probably caught one. The puking dehydrated me a little, then I entered a cycle of dehydration. The warm weather egged it on a bit, and the result was… well, you know.

It makes sense, really, because I tend to drink more fluids in the daytime. It’s been worse lately because the five-gallon jug has been empty. Tim’s back was bothering him, so we’ve been filling a one-gallon jug for the fridge. When that happens, I tend to drink less water.

So, we went to CVS to fill an anti-nausea med, which ran a cool $35. While I was giving the pharmacy my info, Tim brought over a sampling of water bottles and had me choose one. The one I got is very cool — it has a freezer stick to keep water cold, there’s a straw-like deal (good because with wide-mouth water bottles I tend to spill water on myself — sad but true) and it even has a little filter — but it was $9.99. Ouch.

When you add up the pregnancy test, the meds, the water bottle and the doctor’s visit, we’re easily looking at $75. Probably closer to $100, since I didn’t see my normal doctor. All because I didn’t drink enough water.

There’s a pretty obvious lesson to be learned here. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go fill up my spiffy new water bottle.
