Did you use a credit card consolidation program or just pay off all your debts on your own?

Reggie,

No consolidation program for us. In fact, over the last four years, our balances have crested and dropped. We had to keep putting medical bills on the cards many times, as we both cost copious amounts of money merely by breathing. (Last year was one of the worst, but I’d say we easily spent 25% of our pre-tax income on medical expenses.)

So it’s been an ebb and flow. We had our debt down to $7,000 right before we decided to move, which put another $4,000 on the cards.

It’s been an interesting ride, for sure. We still have about $3,000 of student loans to pay off, but it’s nice to know we’re only a step or two away from *real* debt freedom. (God willin’ and the creek don’t rise!)
