Still diligently applying, Tim got a response that amused us both.

It congratulated him on receiving a tentative offer of employment with Miller Brewing Company. Sounds great, right?

All the applicant had to do was send a copy of his credit report to the company. Oh, and this offer expired in 72 hours.

What particularly amused me was that this contact for Miller was using an email that ended in “coachleather-usa.com.”

But obviously the real alarm-sounder here was that any copy would ask for you to supply your credit report.

Still, there are a lot of desperate people out there these days. I wonder how many will follow through without thinking, just because it sounds like the answer to their prayers.

Have any of you heard about something like this? People preying on the desperation of the unemployed?

Yes, I got the same one!!! From hurley USA Inc from Kim Davis. I saw a job posting on craigslist and I was interested in the position until they emailed me about obtaining my credit score that doesn't make sense that they would want it anyways!! And they're excuse is they don't care about your payments and all that information they just want it because they ace a no theft policy ok!!! But what does that have to do with your credit score? Thank godness I found this page after googling it!! Now I know it's a scam!

Got the same email too, Except mine was for Hurley-USA. Since they already had my email address it did no further harm to give them this response.

I’m terribly sorry, I forgot to mention in my cover letter that I’m not an idiot. While it may be that the fictitious company Hurley USA, Inc. has a zero-tolerance policy in regards to theft of company property it appears you have no conscious at all. That’s what those in the medical profession call a sociopath. Please get help before you land in jail.

I have reported this fraud to the FTC as well as the Internet Fraud Complaint Center.

I too have gotten several of these letters all asking you to go to a particular web site to obtain a credit check. So for fun my Husband responded back that I already had a copy of my credit report. Their response was do you have the credit check we asked for. Its bad enough to be unemployed in this economy and then to deal with all these scams too! Also scams asking if you are interested in furthering your education after filling out online application. It doesn't allow you to say no you can only close the screen . Then you start receiving phone calls from Florida if you answer they pretend they can't hear you. If you call them back they put you on hold, I assume collecting high fees for the call.

I got the same lettter as Vivian in Carlsbad did, an I replied back to Sarah that 1) She was not very professional in not using my name in the greeting of the letter, 2) the e-mail popped up in my SPAM box, not my inbox, and 3) Who ever heard of a company that required the potential employee to send his own credit report? That is pretty damned low to try to lead people into giving away valuable information to promote their identity theft practices. I hope that the FBI or FCC, or whoever nails their ass does. Meanwhile, people like us have just another let down and have 1 less chance to get that dream job…

ugh! I got the same email yesterday. Replied to an ad in Craigslist.com for Administrative Assistant II (Mira Mesa). I thought it was weird, so I called Hurley and they’ve never heard of a MELISSA LEWIS in their HR department. So I emailed the so-called “Melissa Lewis” this:

Hi Melissa,

I am a bit skeptical in this job offer, my current and previous employers have performed credit checks on me and has NEVER asked for me to bring in my credit report. It’s a service that a company should pay for and NOT a potential employee, according to our labor law lawyer. In your email you state that it is a FREE credit report, but you fail to mention that it is only for 7 days AND that a person will be charged $25 monthly after signing up onto the website that you provided. Also, I have contacted the HR office at Hurley in regards to this matter, and they have not heard of you. do you have a contact number that you can be reached?

The person behind this scam is a dishonest affiliate of their program. They get a commission for every person who signs up. Thanks for all this SCAM information. It's so easy to become a victim in this economic turmoil. My husband got the same letter from Hurley USA, Inc after sending a resume for a Packaging/Shipping position out of Delmar, CA. I researched the company and at the time did not come out with the SCAM blog. I'm just learning this after I had already sent for his credit report, for not just one, but three credit report agencies. The first time I did the report, I was being redirected to FreeScoresDirect and TripleScoresDirect. After not hearing from Kimberly Davis, I tried the link again and this time it was sent to NationalCredit Report. Thankfully I had cancelled the membership for the others and now working on cancelling the National Credit Card Patrol Membership. I hope these people get caught before more innocent victims, like us, fall prey! Thanks a lot for this BLOG!

Those places charged me over 70 dollars worth of stuff. I went to the bank and changed my card and got all my money back. NEVER SUBMIT ANY OF THIS INFO. ..if they need it, you should be able to meet them in person and get it !
