Still diligently applying, Tim got a response that amused us both.

It congratulated him on receiving a tentative offer of employment with Miller Brewing Company. Sounds great, right?

All the applicant had to do was send a copy of his credit report to the company. Oh, and this offer expired in 72 hours.

What particularly amused me was that this contact for Miller was using an email that ended in “coachleather-usa.com.”

But obviously the real alarm-sounder here was that any copy would ask for you to supply your credit report.

Still, there are a lot of desperate people out there these days. I wonder how many will follow through without thinking, just because it sounds like the answer to their prayers.

Have any of you heard about something like this? People preying on the desperation of the unemployed?

Hello,

Thanks for applying for the post, I did appreciate it? I received and read your e-mail and it's reasonable and acceptable. So I will give this a GO"

Am a Commercial Interior Designer….I design healthcare/medical spaces, commercial office space, hotel renovations, multi-
family / condos..I'm looking for someone that can be trusted and reliable to work very well and with good understanding.This position is home-based and flexible, working with me is basically about instructions and following them,my only fear is that I may come at you impromptu sometimes, so I need someone who can be able to meet up with my irregular timings.As my Personal Assistant,your activities amongst other things will include;

I'm sure you'll understand I tend to have a very busy schedule at this point,as I am presently in Australia, I will be back in Three Weeks.I think you're the right person for this position,Please note that this position is not office based for now
because of my frequent travels and tight schedules, it's a part-time work from home and the flexibility means that there will be busier weeks than others, so it's a little difficult judging the exact number of hours you'll be doing per week.If you can manage your time properly, this job may even give you some extras while you do something else on the side. As I have said, I'd want us to get a head START with things as soon as possible.I do have lots of works piled up presently and a number of unattended chores which you can immediately assist me with, I hope we can meet up with the workload eventually. Permit me to use the coming week to test your efficiency and diligence towards all this, also to work out your time schedule and fit it to mine.

I am also glad on the commitment in working.I have been checking my files and what i would want you to do for me this week is to run some errands out to some of the orphanage home, I do that every month.A payment inform of a Cashier Check/Money Order will be sent over to you from one of my clients and i have some lists to email you once you received the funds,You will make some arrangements by buying some stuff for the kids in the Orphanage at any nearest store around you so you can mail them out. this particular email was sent to me 08/02, I found it fishy, but I responded. . it seemed semi-okay. . until 5 days later, I received this :

Hey, thanks for responding to us.

In case the posting was not clear, the responsibilities of this position are as follows: you will be answering the phone and taking messages whenever applicable, you will be scheduling the company meetings, and running errands for the company for things such as purchasing supplies and making bank deposits (you will be provided with a company car). While you are running errands, you will also be given one of our company credit card(s) for all business purchases.

You seem definitely qualified for our job opening, and more so than the other four applicants we received applications from. I would like to take the next step with you. However, before I am able to schedule a formal meeting, my company will require that you acquire a recent (past 14-21 business days) credit report. We started this because our company had some bad incidents with prior employees taking advantage of having access to a company credit card

Both myself and the company will prefer it that you use http://www.renterslisting.com/fin48 to acquire your check as their scores always report back the most factual and accurate information.Once you submit all of the required information, they will show your personal report. Then, you need to email me the reported credit score, a phone number that you can be easily reached, and your availability schedule to arrange an interview.

I ask you to not email me the entire report, as it will have private content. If you have a lower than expected credit score, it will never prevent you from a position with us. I had a fairly low score whenever I started.

If you do not want to complete a recent credit check, unfortunately the company will require that I contact the second choice.

Personally, I am hoping to fill this position with a new friendly face and am looking forward to your quick response.

Have a fantastic day,

Kind Regards,

Good morning,

Thank you for replying to the craigslist ad regarding the open position at Interactive Data, Inc.

I've taken a look over your information and it seems you would be a great fit for the position. Would you be free to meet early next week?

Just a small point to address… Due to various monetary tasks that need to be taken care of with this job, such as minor book keeping and dealing with customer accounts, I will need you to send me a credit check which can be found at: http://interactivedata-usa.com/applicant446

I hope you understand this is no reflection on yourself, but simply a measure we must take when hiring an employee online. Once you have that information please get back to me, and we can schedule a face to face meeting.

I just got a reply from "Heineken" , an email from the alleged Director of Human Resources named Michelle Capaldi.
Before even meeting me they are offering me a job on the condition that I send them a copy of my Credit Report.
Heineken my ass!
I've also gotten 3 other "job offers' mostly from Warehouse jobs offering staggering pay, like $16 and hour, no experience necessary, job offer expires in 3 days, send credit report.
These scammer ought to take a swim in the Bermuda Triangle!

I just got a similar email today, however, I'm NOT actively seeking a job and haven't been for about six months. This email says it pertains to my recent inquiry for work with Etsuko Skane of ARAMARK, and is a tentative offer for a job paying $14.50-17.00/hr, but "subject to [your] testing scores" possibly as much as $19-26/hr. Anyway, the email address of the sender is etsukoskane8816@yahoo.com, and the service they want people to use for the report is employee-verify.org. So, just adding to the thread to let everyone know that this is spreading beyond Heineken and Coach to use other big-name employers in the scam.

I have received these scam e-mails many times. I sent e-mail in response to Administrative Assistant II and I keep receiving e-mails just like the ones described above. The first one was for Levi Strauss, and recently received one from a Dawn A Wheatley at Aramark Staffing Inc and now a Michelle Capaldi at Heineken Inc. I realized it was a SCAM especially after going to Levi Strauss website and they warned of others using their name. This is so sad that people are preying on the unemployed!

I received one (all excited thinking it was a real job at first) from "AMS Distribution Inc.) with a job for Warehouse worker.. Turns out they asked the exact same thing and the email it seems is a template and all that is changed is the job description and title. I simply replied stating that I don't feel comfortable doing that and that if they needed to contact me they should call me. I at least wanted to get a call or meet in person. Then, I thought I should copy n paste that first line of the email and viola.. brought me here.. FIGURES… what a waste of my time and effort, and hopes.. It actually looked real too.. can't believe people actually fall for the credit report thing! Always meet someone in person or at least have them call and look up their information locally. The BBB report could help, too. BTW: the closest AMS Distribution Inc to Richmond VA was in Canada! So, obviously, they were fake.. someone Googled the name and used their job description for a fake job.. a-holes..

I received the "tentative" job offer today,(NJ) with slight differences. It's been almost six months since the first posting here, I guess the scammers are going to different parts of the country using different company names. Mostly targeting job hunters through craigslist I think. Here is the info I was sent:

This tentative offer will expire in 72 hours from the time sent. If
you choose not to accept it, or have any questions, please email me
directly.

I got an email from Stephanie Mattiello with Uni-Staff also, only I didn't realize it was a scam until I had filled out the credit report information and printed it. Thankfully, I do have ID theft and credit monitoring in place. I'm still kind of scared about what's going to happen. Live and learn I guess.

This is so depressing.
