Sometimes it feels like the universe is just giving you a pat on the head.
Over the weekend, I ran to the grocery store to get a couple items, including grape jelly. We’re out and PBJ sandwiches are one of the more affordable meal options at the moment.
Fry’s was having a sale with Welch’s at $1.99, and some kind person had left a coupon sitting right by the jars. It was for 35 cents off, but Fry’s rounded it to $1.00. Hooray for 99 cent brand-name jelly! Hooray for coupon fairies!
Today, I finally checked out a store called “Rita’s.” It has been open for awhile, and the sign seemed to indicate that they had Italian Ice and custard. Both of which have a special place in my heart. Turns out that they do, in fact, sell both. (And the custard is soft serve, which is really difficult to find.)
The gal behind the counter announced that, this week, regular-sized items were free. I thought I misunderstood and she meant add-ins were free or something. But, no, my cherry Italian ice was free. I think the girl thought I was a little slow, actually. But she pointed out I should come back again this week because… well… it’s free!
It wasn’t just that I almost never get Italian ice. Or that it was 109 degrees out. It was that it was FREE Italian ice (which I almost never get) in 109 degree weather.
So I did a little happy dance, and Tim smiled at me politely as I spooned Italian ice into my mouth on the ride home. (Don’t worry, I wasn’t driving.) And I have a sneaking hunch I’ll be back tomorrow. They had a Swedish fish flavor that I at least have to sample. But maybe tomorrow I’ll get some custard…
Anyone else had a nice little spurt of luck recently?
