Per my last post, I’m trying to get our financial house in better order. That means I need to get a few things done this month to better facilitate that:
First and foremost, I need to get my act together with bank accounts. I need to open at least one ING account. As I understand it, you can have sub-accounts to divvy up your money better. I want one just for socking away Medicare funds, one for my taxes, one for an emergency fund and one for savings. Then we’ll keep funds for regular expenditures in our two regular accounts at Chase.
It sounds more complicated than it is, since it will basically just mean sending a bulk payment once a month to ING, then divvying it up among the categories.
Second, I need to deal with my IRA.
I want to triple the amount we’re putting in each month. That’s still only $300, but it’s a start. And once we see how the budget works out, we can always increase it. I also need to look into a good investment firm. Currently, we have the IRA through our bank, which I know is bad; but it was the only real way I was going to get around to making one.
Finally, in the next month or so, I need to find a good rewards card. I like the airlines card, but I don’t like paying an annual fee — though you can at least pay it with points. I would like at least one other option, and so I need to start comparing reward card options to figure out the best one for our needs.
Okay, the list isn’t exactly huge, but I’m trying to set reasonable goals. In and around all the other stuff going on, this seems like a good place to start.
