So apparently the reason that my tooth is so uncomfortable is because the decay has actually reached the nerve. Which means I need a root canal.
It also means that, instead of a $0 co-pay for a filling, I’ll be paying $325 for the root canal and another $100-490 for a crown. (I hope I get a say, since I’ll be opting for the more affordable versions!)
If I had had figured out the dental plan thing a couple of months ago, I would have saved us all this drama and expense. But I didn’t, and, at this point, it’s spilled milk under the bridge, as they say.
The good news is that they can fit me in on Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. The bad news is that it looks like I have to check with my primary care doctor first — and her first appointment isn’t until Wednesday at 4.
I’m doing some research, but it looks like some of my health issues may mean a root canal isn’t the best idea. But, since I’m in active discomfort, they seem to think my doctor will probably sign off on it. That said, I still have to go and get her to sign off on it.
Ugh. And ouch.
