Tim and I went and saw The Dark Knight Rises on Monday. Not as good as the previous two, but still something to be seen.

More importantly, I’m finally getting around to a post that’s been in the back of my mind for ages.

If you’re a member of AMC Stubs, you’ll rack up rewards even if you’re using free tickets or gift cards.

The best way to take advantage of this is the My Coke Rewards program. It offers free tickets or even combos. The combos include two tickets, two drinks and a large popcorn.

If you don’t do rewards programs, you can still get a bit of a bonus by getting discounted gift cards at Cardpool or Plastic Jungle. But, honestly, the savings aren’t nearly as spectacular.

I should point out that Stubs isn’t free. It’s $12 a year. When you pay, you get the $12 credited to your account.

You also get:

  • Free drink & popcorn upgrades
  • Fandango fee waived if you decide to buy online
  • $10 in credit for every $100 you spend

If you’re one of the rare frugal people who buys concessions, the upgrades alone could pay for your membership.

But the most important part of the program, obviously, is the $10 credit. And with free coupons, $100 doesn’t take much.

The average ticket is around $9. Popcorn is about $6.50, and drinks aren’t much cheaper. So Tim and I “spend” about $35 on a given movie — it’s just all covered by the My Coke Rewards coupons.

That means every third visit gets us a $10 credit. Not bad!

The $10 credit comes in handy if you want to upgrade to a 3D movie, or if you’re running low on free popcorn or drink coupons.

Of course, if you don’t go to the movies all that often, the program probably isn’t worth it for you.

For the rest of us who are addicted to the big screen version of movies… It’s a nice bonus, especially if we’re not spending anything to begin with!
