I ran across this YouTube video.
Their points are pretty much what all frugality blogs say: Be content with what you have.
My only point of contention is the house-as-a-pinnacle thing. Homeowners aren’t “done.” We’re always looking at repair, remodeling or redecorating projects. Really, a house is one of the best ways to remain mired in the gotta-have mentality.
The video reminded me why my collection is still packed up in our garage. It’s exhausting to always have more things to want. New products come out, old ones that were before your time… It wears you down.
That said, I’m dying to get the back porch screened in. (In my defense, it’s meant to be screened in, so it looks pretty bad missing screening and a door.)
So, I guess we’re all trapped somewhat by this mentality. The best we can do is to stay conscious of the urge in order to mitigate it.
What do you find yourself wanting? How do you calm the urge?
