I feel overwhelmed, yet also as though I’m slowly dragging myself out of this pit of “stuff to do.” I guess that’s just the joy of being a depressive with some organizational skills.
The fourth contractor comes by tomorrow to look over the project. So far, only the handyman has sent in his bid: $1500 plus the cost of a Bagster (to save on dump fees). Based on those numbers, I’m afraid to see what the masons will charge. But I guess I’ll find out soon enough.
I also gave up on the idea that I’d really get out to fax the documents for the refinance. So I found and downloaded the drivers for my all-in-one printer. I’ll scan the documents in, though probably not til tomorrow. I also called in my prescriptions before they completely ran out. Sadly, that’s novel.
We need to go grocery shopping no later than tomorrow. I’ve found a new motivation to make myself cook: I checked our bank balance and found out how much we’d spent in the first two days of our financial week. After unswallowing my tongue, I went out and dumped some tomatoes and beans into the crock pot to make chili.
In the meantime, Tim and I have been slowly getting the house a little cleaner.
Last night, he did a bunch of laundry, and I ran the Roomba in various parts of the house. (What’s better than having your floors swept for you? Having your floors swept for you so that you can watch Game of Thrones DVDs.) The floor still needs to be mopped — thanks, pukey cats! — and for that we need Swiffer WetJet solution. Still, it’s nice not to pick crumbs off my feet.
We’ve also been getting better about putting dishes in the dishwasher as they get dirty. Tim’s agreed to unload the dishwasher every time.
And last weekend, we finally hung some more pictures in the living/dining room. And it only took us three years to get around to it.
I still need to clean our shower stall for the first time in I-don’t-want-to-remember-how-long. But there will always be something that needs to be done, so I’m just trying to enjoy what we’ve accomplished so far. I’m hoping that we can get the place clean enough that Tim’s comfortable having people over for a game night in the near future.

You got me beat! I have to start Spring cleaning. If I don't start early, I always feel behind. I swear by Alejandra.tv. She makes organizing so easy. I use to just get rid of everything. I would just declutter away. She shows you how to keep stuff nicely.

I'll try to remember to look into that. And, of course, things are going to get messy again soon. Not just from regular stuff but because I'm going to have to climb into the attic to roll out insulation. I inevitably bring in a mess whenever I'm up there. Run, run, Roomba!

Re: Swiffer WetJet refills… I have seen a number of different copycat "recipes" for the refills that come complete with instructions on how to get the tops off… If you could make some with vinegar and water, that might lighten the financial burden a little!

Hmm, never heard of that. I'll try to remember to look it up. But if I see some in the store, I may just have to file the advice away for next time. Right now, I'm trying to get things done, rather than add to what I "should" do. But I'll do a search just in case it's really that easy.

Have you ever tried flylady.net? I know you have medical issues so I don't mean to seem unsympathetic but she does have some good tips for getting organized in small steps. The idea of a swish and a swipe in the bathroom everyday really helped me, a simple solution for keeping up with at least one room!

Yeah, I tried her in the past. After about a week, as with most things, I fell behind and ended up just getting lost in a ton of emails. Discouraging. I might try her again sometime because I definitely agree that a small thing a day can make things much easier than trying to tackle long overdue projects.

I don't know if you have this option at your pharmacy, but I get automated refills mailed to me. It takes that away from my to do list, and ensures they always arrive at the right time. However, just in case they don't, I asked my doctor to write me a scrip for a week's worth of my meds. They're in my emergency kit, and when I get a refill, I swap old pills for new to keep the meds fresh. This way, I have a week to figure out things if the situation goes pear shaped.

Housekeeping is not only good aesthetically, but its also good for your mental health. Roombas are awesome as well as other modern machines that help a lot with cleaning (dishwashers, washers and dryers, etc). As for the shower stall, if you are not allergic to the ingredients, try spraying Scrubbing Bubbles on the walls, wait 10 minutes and then scrub and rinse that stuff off with a clean broom.
