I know everyone’s writing about taxes, but I’m just so happy ours are done!
I got my business taxes back on Thursday and was able to do ours on Sunday. I really thought it’d take me way longer to get around to it. Let’s hope that it’s still early(ish) enough to get our refunds quickly.
Part of the reason I want to mention this is to spread the word that TaxAct does federal returns for free. (For the record, I’m not getting paid to mention it. I just think it’s really cool.) I know the IRS has free file options. I’ve even written about it. But this version isn’t actually contingent on income, so it’s noteworthy.
And have to say, I’m so relieved I started using the software. I predicted that we might actually owe money to the IRS and get maybe $100 back from the state of Arizona. Instead, we’re getting money back.
Admittedly, I was using estimated, rounded numbers. So maybe I would have had the same results once the real numbers were before me. But maybe not.
And when I did my own taxes, I invariably found a mistake upon review.Like two to three times every year. That meant going through and adjusting numbers, plus printing everything out again.
In short, TaxAct has earned my repeat business. Especially since that business is at least partially free.
Incidentally, we’ll be getting a total of $885 back. Between that and the AdSense payment, we’re at 9.5% of our goal.
Have you done your taxes? What do you use to prepare them?
