I’m finally getting back to a quasi-normal sleeping schedule.
If this were a video game, I’d have a cool trophy. So I decided to cut out the middle man. (Isn’t it shiny?)
I tried going without anything on Monday night… aaaand woke up around 2 a.m. for about an hour. No reason. Just awake.
This is why I need help sleeping.
I looked into melatonin, but there are some cautions against taking it if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. I’ll be steering clear for now.
Instead, I took some Zzzquil last night. Unfortunately, it made my Restless Leg Syndrome flare up somethin’ fierce. For whatever reason, sleepiness-inducing meds sometimes do this.
I had to get up for about 15 minutes and stretch/use the foam roller to quiet my legs down. Then I went back to bed and slept soundly.
Tonight I’ll just try to stretch out before bed/the Zzzquil. I think I can get some relatively steady rest if I can just avoid waking up with a painful need to stretch.
So the sleep issue is slowly receding. Unfortunately, my back pain is still around. I’m sure stretching will help that out too. As would some crunches. Any day now…
From what Tim’s told me, I’m pretty sure my pain is maybe a third of what he deals with every day. I have no idea how he does it. Other than his ridiculously high pain threshold.
We just got a referral for his back pain. The CORE Institute is so specialized that you see different doctors for different areas of the body. So the guy he saw for his knees is not the doctor he’ll see for his back.
The system creates extra hassle (and co-pays), but it means the doctors really know their stuff. I think that’s a fair trade-off.
If doctors can’t find anything specific — and I imagine they can’t in the majority of back pain cases they see — then at least we’ll know the next step: exercises/physical therapy. We just need a kick in the ass to work on treating his pain. One way or another.
In other general news, someone is coming by later today to replace the window. We’re getting a cash discount, so the job will be $250. It could have been worse.
I might have gotten a better rate if I’d shopped around, but this is the place our normal contractors recommended. Plus, I’m still working my way back to my normal levels of cognition. The idea of finding more windows guys on Angie’s Lists and calling them and… I suddenly have the desire to curl up in the fetal position.
So if all goes well (famous last words) we’ll have a new window installed by the end of the day. Here’s hoping.
I’m off to lie down on the couch and think about how I really ought to be stretching.
Anyone else having sleep problems? Or back problems? Or window problems?
