On Monday, I raved about Ooma. Since you just have to buy the $129.99 base, it’s a great one-time expense (besides about $4 a month in taxes and fees).
But now the company is making it even cheaper.
During a referral special, you can get the device for $89.99. That’s $40 off retail, and the cheapest price I’ve found so far.
Just use this link or the referral code YIG6316 to get the price. The offer ends 8/7/15, so be sure to act quickly.
It occurs to me that, while raving about our savings, I forgot to mention that this is more than just a basic line.
There are the obvious benefits: free U.S. calling, 911 service, call waiting, call holds, caller ID, etc. But there are quite a few more.
You can view your call activity in your online account, which is a great way to find a number no longer in your caller ID. It also makes it easier to check your voicemail without calling in.
Want a cheap way to call friends outside the U.S.? Have them get Ooma too. There’s free calling between Ooma numbers anywhere in the world.
You can also buy a Bluetooth adapter to pair Ooma with your mobile phone or Bluetooth headset.
If you think the area around your modem or router is too crowded, you can buy an adapter for that too. Just plug it in, and you can place the base anywhere in your wi-fi range.
If you feel like upgrading to Ooma Premier, you’ll get several more for $9.99 a month. (You can check them out with the 60-day trial when you sign up with Ooma Basic.) Some noteworthy benefits are:
- Free mobile minutes
- Phone number blocking
- Free calling to Canada
- A second line
- Calls forwarded to a second number if your Internet is down
That said, I think the free service is the best way to go. It’s hard to beat a $4 (or less) phone bill. And if you act now, you’ll see the savings even sooner.
Make sure you take advantage this deal. You’ll be helping out the blog while also helping yourself. Which is (to me anyway) the best of both worlds.
