Well, the good news is that we had a little bit of money leftover by the time my paycheck arrived.
Tim’s GERD diet means we’re eating out a lot less. (Asking him to nix fried/spicy/cheese completely proved impossible. But he’s cut pretty far down.)
I expect the trend to continue at least through the next endoscopy, which should take place in about a month. Assuming we ever get in to see the damn specialist.
Point being, the food bill was eased this past month. Always a nice surprise.
Also surprising is that we were able to put away a substantial sum into savings. Last month, we were only able to put in about $300, and I was sure this month would be bad too.
So I was thrilled to put $1,475 into savings. That brings the savings total up to $16,070 — which is 64.3% of the goal. Whoohoo!
That said, we’re going to wait on Tim’s teeth until this appeals thing is settled. If we lose it, we have to pay back the $860 we’re getting from the SSA each month. So we probably shouldn’t deplete savings altogether. We’ll see.
On a quasi-financial note, birthday freebies are rolling in. I have offers from IHOP, Dave & Buster’s, Cold Stone, Lonestar Steakhouse, and a couple of local restaurants.
Happily, the Lonestar BOGO entree won’t go to waste. It normally does, since I order an appetizer. But Marc and Nadine are taking us to dinner on Monday. So I’ll print out the coupon for that trip.
IHOP is a birthday breakfast tradition, so that’ll definitely get used. I’ll decide on my birthday whether I can manage Cold Stone the same day as a huge slab o’ chocolate cake from Cheesecake Factory.
I’ve decided that I definitely want to hit Dave & Buster’s to play some redemption games. You figure $20 of credit should get us just enough tickets to buy… probably a Fun Dip. Seriously, the prices are ridiculous.
I’ll also decide the day of whether I want to go see a movie. I prefer to leave things flexible.
And we’ll use my free Red Robin burger before the end of the month.
If any of you want to get me something for my birthday, do one (or more) of the things below:
- Vote for me in the Plutus Awards. Use this link and put my blog in whatever field(s) you deem appropriate.
- Use this link to sign up for the Dunkin’ Donuts rewards program. (You get a free drink for signing up.)
- Use this link to sign up for Sherwin-William’s loyalty program. (You get 15% off purchases.)
How are your finances faring? And let’s hear from you guys: Should I attempt both Cold Stone and a ton of cake on the same day?
