Okay, so not sure how coherent this will be. But I’ll do my best.
I haven’t gotten enough sleep the past couple of days. Tim’s neck and back are acting up, so I run the errands and get any food. The house is a mess as the cards thing draws to a close. Aaaand I just sneezed on myself after eating peanut butter toast. Guess it’s lucky that all of our jelly had hardened into an unusable paste or it would have been even worse.
What I’m sayin’ is that I’m a tad scattered. But the blog’s been silent for the better part of two weeks. Even the tumbleweeds have gotten bored of blowing across it. So I at least owe you a quick update.
The rheumatologist can’t help me — but at least she explained why. Apparently the FDA has been severely cracking down on off-label uses of medications. Would have been nice if any of the other doctors had mentioned that. In the past three months.
She did try to get my insurance to approve some Provigil, but it was denied. At least I got an explanation and some actual effort. Tim said we should just get the prescription — since she seemed willing to write it — and pay out of pocket. It’s a good point, but moot right now since we’re trying to get pregnant again.
I was approved for Farmer’s life insurance finally. The premium was higher than the base rate thanks to the bipolar thing. So I pay $50 a month for $150,000 coverage, whereas my 55-year-old mom pays only a little more for $250,000. Yeah, that seems fair.
I need to keep looking for quotes, I suppose. But each one will require a medical exam before I can get a quote, so that could take awhile, and, cumulatively, a decent chunk of blood.
In happier insurance news, we’re getting a break on home insurance by bundling through Farmer’s. It’s good timing because our current company’s premium went way up. Last year, the price was only $15 higher. This year, it was $250. We were only paying $755.
I’ve done some checking around for car, but so far all the prices are higher. Besides, Farmer’s earned my loyalty in the past. I was a live-in landlord at a house near UW. A fire meant that everyone had to be evacuated for over a month. Farmer’s paid for over a month in an extended stay hotel (quite nice, actually) and covered me for my missed rent. It also paid to have the place cleaned, including every page of my 50+ books, if you can believe it. All without a peep of complaint from the company.
That’s about all the news that’s fit to print. I’m going to start boxing up orders tonight. Then we have to figure out what to do with the other 21,000+ cards that no one wanted. I think I’ll sleep a lot this weekend.

Waaaitaminit! Abby, get in touch by e-mail or give me a call. I have a friend who is truly a primo insurance broker. I'll bet he can get you a better price, with no cost to you. Jeez…he saved me $500 on homeowner's & auto insurance, and got more coverage, too, with a highly reputable company.
I'll give you his name. He's very mellow and does not try to high-pressure you at all.
Farmer's was good to me, too, but they jacked up their premiums years ago. They're still very high compared to other companies.
LOL! Sounds like "The Cards" have taken on a life of their own…and are taking over your life!
