The cards, that is. (And if that pun made you groan, you can thank Tim.)
We finished shipping out the 3,400ish cards that stores actually wanted. It was friggin $50 to get it all mailed out with insurance.
We’d hoped to save about $5 by printing online, but it turns out the USPS site is a piece of… well, it’s a nightmare.
I had to reset my forgotten password. The emailed link took me to a page that, I kid you not, included the field “Old Password.”
Then it wouldn’t accept my new password, saying it was too short… despite the fact that it was one character longer than the minimum and was a mix of numbers and letters.
So one of my other email addresses got an account. When I tried to use my credit card, though, I apparently got the security code wrong. I fixed it, and the system announced I announced that I had exceeded the number of times I could try to use that payment method. ??!!!
I switched and used the credit card via PayPal. Which worked for two labels. Then the system told me the transaction could not be processed. So I tried using our bank account. Then my debit card. Then Tim’s debit card. Nada.
Customer support said something had triggered an error in the system. A case would be open, and most were resolved in as little as two days. Some of the orders had been created over a week before this, so I couldn’t wait. Oh, and I couldn’t just have Tim create an account. That would probably cause further errors, and the process would take longer.
In other words, we went to the post office in person and paid the extra $1.95. My frugal sensibilities grumbled the whole time.
But the cards are now in the mail, and hopefully the checks will be sent out in about a week. We’re assuming we’ll get at least $400 after grading. (Some of those cards are pretty old.) Now we just have to find someone who’ll buy the 21,000 remaining cards in bulk. We’ll get around $50-100.
In other news, we will have one hell of a credit card bill this month.
Our car insurance is due in a few days, and some changes in AZ law caused rates to shoot up. Ours by $150. I’ll shop around later to see if better deals can be had. Right now, I’m too exhausted/frazzled. Point being: $900 is due on the 11th.
We also bit the bullet on the 5-year A/C protection plan from Sears. All years are due upfront.
Before you get on my case about protection plans, it’s $50 more than the cost of the yearly check-up. Meanwhile, house visits and any labor are covered. I decided that I’d pay less than $1 a week for peace of mind. Still, our savings account will take a hit.
Luckily — sorta — I’m up for 40 hours of overtime in the next seven days. Unluckily, it’s because the nights/weekend gal has to have surgery. They found a mass on her appendix, and we’re all hoping it hasn’t spread. But they won’t know until they cut her open. (Feel free to send out good thoughts into the universe.)
At least this’ll help bulk our Capital One savings account back up a bit. But I really hope she doesn’t take more than seven days to recover.
