I should have something smart, interesting or introspective to say about personal finance or disability or something. But dammit, all I can think about is the fact that I have Friday off!
There are two reasons for this. First, because this past weekend was the one I cover, so I’ve been working 10 days straight during the high holiday volume of customer emails. Second, because STAR WARS!
As I explained in a post last week, we’ve got tickets for Friday at 10 a.m. And I don’t care if it’s weird to eat popcorn at 10 a.m. It’s going to happen.
Beyond that, we have exactly zero plans for Tim’s birthday weekend. I’m guessing he’ll spend a lot of Friday afternoon going through YouTube reviews to see how other nerds’ impressions stack up against his.
Saturday will see three presents: one from me, one from his parents and one from my mom. And dinner at his choice of places. Beyond that, he prefers to leave it loose.
Since we’re not going out of town, we have some funds available for activities. We’re still open to the possibility of just getting a hotel room somewhere and chilling out. I’ve pointed out that if we did that in Tempe, we’d have a university district full of bars at our disposal.
But he’s preferring to keep things unplanned. Of course, if we do go the hotel route, I’ll jump on Hotels.com through Mr. Rebates and find a deal. Because paying full price would make me sick before we even got to the actual alcohol!
Seriously, though, I’ll be interested to see what, if anything, we end up doing. He might prefer to lay low. We might go play pool. (Although, I often end up playing pool’s sister game, “Or that.” As in, I call a shot and, as I watch what actually happens, say, “Or that.”)
In unrelated news, I’ve been embarrassed that I keep having to yank up my jeans. At first, I thought they were too tight, and my belly was making them roll down a little. Then I realized that, no, I’m actually still (very gradually) losing weight.
So we went to an Old Navy to find out just how far away I am from a size 10. Except all four of the size 10 jeans I tried on fit me. Pretty comfortably. Was not expecting that!
I didn’t see any I liked — a pity, since the sales are damn good right now — so I guess I’ll just keep an eye out. That said, I don’t want to invest in too many smaller sizes before we make this last pregnancy attempt.
Similarly, I don’t want to get my rings resized until we know that I’ll stay at/around this weight. Which is a problem, because they’re getting a little worryingly loose. I keep my left hand’s finger bent a lot, especially when I get my hands wet.
I keep telling Tim that, worst case scenario, I’ll use a Sharpie to draw an arrow on my ring finger, pointing to my middle one, where the bands will actually be.
It’s weird — a good weird — to be at my lowest weight in 15 years. I got to my heaviest weight ever down here in Arizona. I was 212 lbs and size 16s were getting noticeably tight. I was right around 200 lbs when we moved into the house. I’m around 168 lbs now.
It’s either very funny or very sad (or perhaps both) that I owe the start of this weight loss to zombie anxiety. The irrational fear of the undead made me want to get in better shape.
Then when that leveled off, I’ve had FinCon to motivate me. And no, I’m not equating personal finance bloggers with zombies, I promise. Aaaaand now my brain is fixated on making a post called “10 reasons PF bloggers are like the undead.”
Oh, and speaking of losing weight… I’m counting down the days til Christmas Eve, when I’ll let myself eat a bunch of sugar. I’m actually making a list in my head. It’s going to be ugly. Deliciously, deliciously ugly.
Just a week to go. Which is good, because I actively whimpered when I went past a Cold Stone on Tuesday. Tim said, “I’m sorry, hon.” To which I replied, “That’s okay. Ice cream’s gross. Everyone knows that. That’s why they scream so much when it’s around.”
What are your plans for the next few days? Also, feel free to agree with me that ice cream is super gross.
Don’t forget that today is the last day to enter for the giveaway of some awesome and unique chain mail earrings!
