Thursday: This was a quiet day. I did laundry during the day. (I love working from home!) I did two loads, so $5 went into the Washer/Dryer fund.
One piece of good news: I finally got back into working out after a four-day hiatus due to a variety of factors (only one of which was laziness). It sucked, as expected, but I felt better having done it.
After work, I ran to CVS because I was almost out of my contact lens solution. That was $11.28 after a 20% off coupon. The $2.60 saved went into saved savings.
Then I ran to the grocery store since I had just eaten my last frozen meal. Besides the frozen meals, I picked up some rice so I can make rice and beans the next time I get a craving. I also some more of my beloved hummus and some popcorn. The popcorn was because I’m watching The Flash on Netflix, and superhero stuff makes me crave popcorn.
Strawberries were 75 cents per container, so I picked up two of those as well. At least I abstained from getting any candy or rainbow sherbet. (Though the rainbow sherbet was because it was scheduled to become 99 cents for Friday and Saturday.)
Still, because of the additions my grocery bill was $32.90 instead of the $18 for just the frozen meals. Not great, especially having spent so much the previous day.
I went home and watched The Flash (and munched on hummus, strawberries and popcorn). I called it an early night at 9 p.m. because I was tired.
Total spent: $51.78
Friday: I worked, worked out (ugh!) and generally narfed around until 7 p.m., when I had a date. I Ubered to the date ($8.76 after tip). It turns out this guy also had Guillain-Barre Syndrome. One in every 100,000 people get it. What are the odds that two of us would match on Tinder?
It was a decent date. Not stellar, but I’m going to give him another shot because he seems nice and, thanks to the illness, he hadn’t been on a date in close to two years. So I figure he’s a little rusty.
He drove me home, so no Uber return fare.
Total spent: $8.76
Saturday: I worked this weekend, but it was quiet so I also got some work done on the blog. During the day, I ran a few errands. I mailed off two letters to Chase (one for personal accounts, one for business accounts) refusing the binding arbitration clause. That cost $7.35 since I needed tracking.
I got some air filters for the HVAC system and a specialty lightbulb for the hallway fixture from Home Depot ($9.17). And I went to Frys to pick up some more strawberries and some $0.99 rainbow sherbet. I walked out with $13.18 of groceries, which just goes to prove that I really need to get better about sticking to grocery lists.
After work, I went to a party with a guy I’ve seen a few times now. This is the one from the previous Saturday, who took me to a kid’s birthday party. The guy charmed my friend (among others) so she approves. It was a small party, but a fun one. Unfortunately, we didn’t leave until around 11 p.m. and I didn’t get to bed until around 1 a.m.
Total spent: $29.70
Sunday: I woke up still pretty tired and dragging, but I had to work. I caught up on emails, worked on the blog a little and then I laid back down. Alas, I couldn’t fall asleep. So I got back up and worked on the blog some more while waiting for more emails to come in.
I had to drop off a prescription at CVS, so I picked up some takeout on the way back ($8.91). I’ve decided to allow myself takeout once a week, so this didn’t trigger any guilt, which was lovely.
When the gray hairs start to show in between color jobs, I use this lovely root touch-up powder. I bought one off Amazon for $9.90 after tax.
Total spent: $9.90
I went to see a urologist due to recurrent UTIs that have my doctor worried. (Sorry if that’s TMI, but it is medically concerning since I went septic that one time.) We figured out a plan to get some diagnostic stuff done, and I only had to wait a friggin’ hour to see the doctor. Sometimes I hate specialists.
Anyway, other than that I worked, worked out and, you guessed it, worked on the blog. I had tentative plans for a second date with a guy, but they fell through when he got assigned a paper to peer review and had to prep for a job interview too.
So after work, I played around on Tinder a little and then watched more of The Flash. Toward bedtime I ended up chatting with a few Tinder guys. Some seemed promising for future reference, and I made a date for Tuesday with someone I’d been chatting with for a few days already.
At 10 p.m. my tenant texted me to let me know that water from the storm was coming in under the door. I came over to take a look. She had used a towel to mop most of it up, but enough rain had come in that the towel was soaking wet. And the storm was still going. I apologized and told her I’d call the handyman service in the morning.
Because of the Tinder-ing, I went to bed late (11 p.m.), which I knew I’d regret the next day.
Total spent: $0
Tuesday: Sure enough, I regretted it. I peeled myself out of bed begrudgingly at 6:45 a.m.. I actually still got about seven and a half hours’ sleep, but I do best with eight and a half to nine hours’ sleep. Yay chronic fatigue.
I called the handyman service that installed the door, but they can’t come out for about 10 days. Let’s all think lots of good, anti-rain thoughts.
I worked and actually managed to work out, but it was even less fun than usual. Then about three hours before our date, the guy messaged to cancel. Something came up at work. So far, we haven’t rescheduled, but hopefully it’ll happen at some point.
At least I made a date for Thursday with the guy I took to my friend’s party. We plan to go to the movies. He was apparently relieved when I suggested the latest Spider-Man movie instead of a chick flick.
I swung by CVS and picked up a medication ($15). Otherwise, I stayed home, watched The Flash and grumbled a little about the cancelled date.
Total spent: $15
Wednesday: I apparently forgot to pay my city services bill last month, so I got one this month for $93.43. Too much to take out of the weekly funds, so I paid the bill but didn’t debit it from the account.
I had to swing back by CVS because my doctor called in an antibiotic for one of the aforementioned recurrent UTIs. If I’d known that they planned to do that, I’d have waited to pick up my other medication. But oh well. CVS is only about two miles from my house, so it’s not the worst fate in the world. Still annoying, though. Anyway, the meds were $15.
I got a message from my date (it was scheduled to be an afternoon date since he works nights). He hadn’t slept and desperately needed a nap. So yep, second cancellation in two days. Sigh.
I consoled myself by picking up a couple of things from Fry’s (including some hummus at 50% off, woot!) for $4.54. At least it was affordable (and healthy) retail therapy.
I also verified that I’d be free Saturday, so I messaged Tuesday’s guy to see if he wanted to go out that day. No response yet.
Total spent: $112.97 ($19.54 out of weekly funds)
Total spent: $228.11 ($134.68 out of weekly funds)
A lower spend week (of weekly funds), which is great! Alas, I have to order my protein bars (~$80) next week, so I can’t hope for the same results then. Ah well, it’s nice while it lasts.
