I really have been plugging away at a post for ages. It’s just got a lot of moving parts/math, so I keep adding and subtracting and rearranging.
And there are days I just don’t want to write at all. Say for example, when Mom is in town (started last Sunday and through this Thursday) when we could be sitting around watching TV and kibitzing.
But I’m still here. I was just having too much fun, in and around the attempts to write up something.
There haven’t been as many parties now that pool party season has ended. So most of my going out has been for trivia these last few weeks.
But I did end up going to a Halloween party, and I met a guy who seems promising. We’re just messaging at this point, but we’ll see if it leads to an actual date.
Oh and obligatory costume pics, of course:
I’m trying to keep more of an eye on the local theater scene. A friend and I are going to a revue called Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.
It’s about Billie Holiday in one of her last performances and is apparently part dialogue, part songs. And it was $28 after the Goldstar fee, so why not?
I unfortunately missed most of the last round of plays since I was so busy socializing and organizing other shows for my group to go to.
I’ve decided to have a Friendsgiving. I don’t know how many people will actually show, but there are at least four who would come for actual food. Otherwise, it’s just playing board games and chilling out.
But of course my warped sense of humor had to take my usual Facebook image for board game night events and… embellish on it:
Does everyone worry occasionally about their brain? Or is it just me?
The hostess with the mostest?
Actually, I’ve been thinking about trying to start throwing some general parties at my place.
There are fewer parties in the cooler months, and most parties are on the Eastside. So it might be nice to have some gatherings out here in the West Valley.
If I get someone to help me put the dining table into my guest room, we can put the six dining chairs against the wall, along with the recliners. There are still two of my old dining chairs that are safe to sit on. And I currently have 14 folding chairs.
Oh and my tenant’s mom decided she didn’t want her patio table and chairs anymore. So I got those for free, which is seating for another four folks.
Used firepits can be pretty cheap, so — if I decide to follow through with hosting some events — I’ll pick those up. That’ll be last, though, since sometimes I leave things unfinished.
Speaking of which…
The bathroom will be complete once my handyman comes over to install the shower door and medicine cabinet.
Yes, medicine cabinets are a pretty easy install. Unless, like the one I got, they weigh more than 30 lbs. My handyman won’t charge much, so I figure it’s worth ridding myself of the hassle.
Once that’s all done, you’ll finally get pictures, I swear.
But the house also needs some other fixes.
I’m also having the handyman patch the large drywall holes where the plumber had to cut out to deal with my foundation leak. Back in January. Sigh.
And the house has needed a new paint job for years. It’s 12 years old and it wasn’t a spectacular job to begin with. So while I’m still rebuilding my saving account and emergency fund, there’s enough padding that I don’t think a $2,000 to $2,500ish job is going to set me back too badly.
Plus, it’ll be nice to finally get this off my shoulders. It’s been looming for multiple years now.
Also, I have a pretty bad gopher problem, and most people at any parties I throw will be sitting/standing around in my backyard. So I figure I should get it to the points that it’s no longer a series of holes and (in some cases) randomly collapsing dirt under your feet.
There are DIY things to try, but I found results vary wildly. So I’m getting an estimate on Tuesday. If that’s as high I suspect it will be, I’ll have a great motivation to deal with them myself.
What’s everyone else been up to?
