I’m afraid there’s just not much to report ’round these here parts.
Most noteworthy is probably that I’m in the midst of an epic amount of overtime, causing me to work 18 days straight. And that’s after picking up two evening shifts and a Saturday two weeks ago.
The workload is relatively light at this time of the year, so the OT isn’t taxing in that sense. But there’s the mental fatigue that comes with not getting enough time away from work in general.
I should have thought of this when I accepted — no, jumped — at the chance for more hours. Alas, in the moment I forgot that things aren’t quite as tight since Tim won his appeal. So all I could think was, “Extra money? Extra money = savings, and savings are good! Gimme hours gimme gimme gimme!”
Hopefully, moving forward I’ll be a little more cautious about taking on overtime. But probably not. I see dollar signs and zero in on pictures of a nice plump savings balance. All logic — such as how I’ll feel after working all that overtime — is subsequently lost on me.
Between all the overtime and the general sluggishness that comes with Arizona summer heat, I just haven’t felt inspired about anything enough to post. So I’m sorry for the quiet on here, but the ideas just don’t come easily right about now. If you have a topic you want me to cover, please let me know in the comments, and I’ll do my very best to oblige.
Perhaps because of the overtime I failed to notice that my Lamictil didn’t have any refills on it, so I got to spend Monday morning in a daze until an emergency three-day supply could be arranged. I felt like my head was stuffed with cotton, kind of like I was on bad daytime cold meds or something. Quite unpleasant and it was obviously difficult to get work done, so I was relieved when I got my grubby little hands on the interim pills.
Since picking those up, I got confirmation that my doctor called in a refill… of two weeks’ worth. That’s enough to get me through to my next appointment with him, but I fail to see why a full month’s supply couldn’t have been given.
My best guess is that they thought I wouldn’t come in if I got a full month’s worth. Which seems grasping to me. Also, it’s incorrect because I’m on two other meds that I’ll need new prescriptions for. So really the doctor’s office just came off poorly here. Which compounds my already slightly poor opinion of him, as he sometimes seems a bit dismissive.
I need to find a new doctor, but it’s nearly impossible to do with my current insurance.
I did try. I got a bunch of results from my insurance’s database and made the calls. And it was a debacle.
More than half of the doctors that were shown as being near me were in no way actually close. Because they worked at one location of a hospital that happens to have other locations by me, they popped up in the results. Once per hospital location. So I saw the same four names over and over, but when I called I found that their offices were 20+ miles away.
Another few turned out to only see in-patient clients. That is, people who are already in a facility, presumably rehab or psychiatric wards.
Of the remaining two, one had an outdated phone number, and one never called me back. I never followed up with the second guy because by that point I was just annoyed at the whole endeavor. Besides which, he was an older gentleman, and I’d been hoping to find someone younger, preferably a woman. I find that younger practitioners, especially female ones, tend to be better at listening to me/not being dismissive.
What’s truly annoying is that I know there are other options. I know this because my doctor didn’t even show up in the results, so there are other docs out there who accept my insurance. I just have no idea how to find them. So I guess I’m stuck with my current guy until I can get away from HealthNet.
Other than that, there’s simply not that much going on. I’ve settled into finding things to binge-watch on Netflix.
I just went through Schitt’s Creek, which took a couple of episodes for me to warm up to but ultimately enjoyed quite a bit. Tim and I are finishing Altered Carbon later tonight. I expect season two of Luke Cage will be next, but I’m open to suggestions if anyone has a Netflix or Hulu gem for me. At some point I’ll get into season two of The Handmaid’s Tale but given the local SCOTUS news… Well, I don’t think I have the heart for it right now.
Anyone else feeling lethargic? Or dealing with the hassle of trying to get a new doctor?
Allie says
There’s only 4 season but my husband and I watched Halt and Catch Fire. It’s a bit slow moving the first few episodes but really picks up! And well, Handmaid’s Tale… it’s so much worse than you think it is. I needed trigger warnings for my trigger warnings..
Abigail says
I’ll try to check out Halt and Catch Fire, thanks!

Do you have Amazon prime? The wonderful Mrs. Maisel is really funny, and Sneaky Pete both Amazon Originals was a favorite for my boyfriend. I ,to ,have been working a lot lately not only at my regular 9-5 but ive started driving for Grub hub to save up for that Vegas trip I mentioned earlier and to rebuild my savings from the move. I think when your in rebuild mode and motivated you gotta capitalize off of it. Even though I complained to my boyfriend haven’t had one of our “date days” in 2 months because we both have been working grub hub in our spare time. I guess its sacrifices until we burn out?? LOL usually summer time costs me a ton of money with the kids being out of school so at least this summer ive been making more money and got a little cushion about $800 or so saved up. Since a new month started im going to try to push myself a little this week.
Abigail says
Hooray for the cushion! And I guess Vegas will feel extra wonderful because you’ll finally be taken a break! I have Amazon Prime, but I’m a secondary on the account. So I don’t have access to video, but I could probably sign in as Mom if I run out of Netflix/Hulu options. Thanks for the recommendations!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is TERRIFIC!
Abigail says
Another endorsement, eh? Well, I’ll definitely try to check it out then.

I always recommend Netflix’s Longmire. Hubby and I really enjoyed it. We also liked Schitt’s Creek, and it took us a while to warm up as well.
Abigail says
I’ve heard of Longmire, so I’ll definitely try to check it out. Thanks!
Donna Freedman says
I’m assuming that Netflix has *all* of the “Longmire” shows? The program was on AMC but it got canceled; apparently its ratings were excellent but not in the demographic that advertisers wanted.
Worse: It ended on a cliffhanger! But Netflix bought it and continued the series. Which means it must have bought all the shows, right?
The writing is very good, and the characters remind me of Alaskans: They look at a situation, figure it out, decide what they’re going to do and just do it.

Abigail says
Netflix should have all of the seasons yes. But I’ll check before I start it.
carrie says
Yes, they have all of them. When we started it, we didn’t know about the AMC cliffhanger thing!! Luckily by the time we got to that point, Netflix not only bought the series but was planning a few seasons of their own. We had to wait a few months for the very last (abbreviated) season, but it was worth it.
Cindy Brick says
LOVED Longmire… except you have to remember that it’s masquerading as being in Wyoming. It was actually shot in the Santa Fe area. Anyone not in the West wouldn’t probably know the difference…but you would.
We’ve been binge-watching Grimm. Have you ever tried that series? We’re in season 3, and still going strong. It has lots of literary and cultural ‘in’ jokes, as well, which you might enjoy.
Cindy Brick recently posted…Canine Miracle… Maybe not
Abigail says
We enjoyed Grimm for a while, but it went off the rails at some point. Not sure what season that was, but it was enough that we kind of lost interest. But hopefully you’ll keep enjoying it because the characters were pretty compelling.

Ugh yes, I need to sign up with a local doctor (and so does T) ideally before baby arrives. I’ve identified one I just need to actually do it! I go so infrequently that I’m still registered with one 25 mins away in my old suburb where I haven’t lived for years.
Abigail says
It’s such a pain to find a new doctor, and then you have to hope they’re good/attentive. It’s an exhausting proposition!
Catseye says
As soon as the O/T is done, be sure to kick back a little and do something fun, Abby. You will have earned it.
I’m working an extra shift here and there at the restaurant because I really need the money. I worked yesterday because I always work Wednesdays but also liked the holiday pay. I watched the fireworks on tv when I got home last night. BTW, last night’s shift was INSANE. Apparently no one cooked out in central AR yesterday, they all came to our BBQ joint. ;oD
I’m also feeling lethargic. Between losing an uncle last month, then needing to find a new doctor because my old doctor’s clinic doesn’t like Medicaid patients (sigh). Finding new doctors is not one of my faves, either.
Abigail says
People didn’t do cookouts here either. No one in the park and when we tried to go to a BBQ restaurant at 5:30 there was a wait. A short one, but man the place was packed! Sorry to hear your work shift was so crazy. And that you have to find a new doctor.
Cakester says
My lovely female doctor is moving to a different state! So I feel you on that part.
Abigail says
Oh no! Not something that I want people to have to feel me on. 🙁
Cheryl says
Riverdale! But, I’m a huge fan of Archie comics 🙂 It’s like Archie comics went all 90210 on us, but more mystery involved with the drama.
Abigail says
I keep meaning to check out Riverdale. I just have to get in the right headspace for dark teen angst. Looks like it could be a fun, absorbing watch though.
Kristy says
I will second Riverdale..I have really enjoyed watching it. Anxious for season 3 to come.
Abigail says
Good to know because I’m running low on Madam Secretary episodes already and we’re most of the way through Luke Cage!

I should PROBABLY find a new therapist but I don’t have any mental bandwidth for that. My energy is being sucked up with balancing personal trials (our own and close friends who are going through a really hard time) and the state of a nation that’s already whirling down the tubes of fascism. It’s painful but I have to stay involved because I refuse to give up on fighting for this country. People are already getting hurt in droves, children traumatized and abused, how much worse could it get if people don’t do what they can to fight it?
naturally, it’s a bit draining so I have to spend a fair amount of time rejuvenating myself as well to be sure we live to fight another day.

Abigail says
I’m glad you’re out there fighting. Now that things are easier in the budget I’m hoping to give more to charities that can fight the good fight in our stead because right now I don’t have the wherewithal to do much myself. And it’s pointless anyway trying to rally the Republican senators here. I’ve tried and get form letters touting the “good work” they do that is in direct opposition to what I’ve asked them to do about legislation.
